Social Innovation, Management, and Organizations

Startups, established companies, NPOs/NGOs, and government agencies work on social innovation to solve problems with new ideas and methods. In this area of study, students integrate research and practice to learn about new means to achieve positive social and economic outcomes.

*The term, "area," here does not refer to the major, department, or course to which students or faculty members belong. It is used for convenience and clarity to explain the areas of study that are currently offered in the two faculties. Students at SFC engage in projects based on their interests, consequently creating fields of study of their own.

Management Strategies and Startups

For startups and ventures to succeed, they need to clarify their missions, and obtain in-depth knowledge of management, social skills, and the ability to take action with agility and precision. Students learn about management strategies to develop these assets in response to rapidly changing circumstances.

Organizational Management and Management Information Systems

In any organization, activities are carried out by a variety of individuals, and their customers are also individuals with diverse interests and needs. Students gain insights into lifestyles, customer needs, career paths, leadership, and organizational culture in a new era. They also discuss developments in marketing, organizational design, and human resources.

Social Businesses, NPOs and NGOs

Students learn about the past and current circumstances of social businesses and NPOs/NGOs that take initiative in solving social issues, and then explore new approaches and developments. We provide hands-on approaches to understanding elements required to become social entrepreneurs, how to manage an organization and its activities, as well as how to evaluate and develop policies.

Community Design in the Information Society

We explore the concepts of community, governance and platforms for organizations, and strive to design a new society. As a way to do this, students learn to develop and implement ideas to create a safe, secure, sustainable, and inclusive society from macro and micro perspectives.
