Advanced Information Systems

In this area of study, we strive to create advanced information systems that are omnipresent in everyday life, with computers and networks ingrained in society to support our lives in various ways.

*The term, "area," here does not refer to the major, department, or course to which students or faculty members belong. It is used for convenience and clarity to explain the areas of study that are currently offered in the two faculties. Students at SFC engage in projects based on their interests, consequently creating fields of study of their own.

Internet Systems and Applications

By utilizing actual networks, students engage in research on the internet and mobile technologies that underpin social activities and enhance the safety, security, and comfort in everyday lives.

Ubiquitous Information Systems

We explore new ubiquitous computing environments that extend human mobility and communities by studying various technologies including: AI-powered sensing technology, data processing technology in cloud systems and edge systems, and technologies related to information-driven behavior change.

Computation Infrastructure

We conduct practical research on system software that supports the foundation of advanced information systems, and cultivate new computational infrastructure (such as quantum computing), and a group of engineers who support these systems.

Knowledge and Information Systems

We construct new knowledge by way of real-time processing of extremely large-scale data obtained from various objects, ranging from the human body to the universe. We conduct research on fundamental technology for services that enable the new knowledge to be shared, extracted, searched, and predicted progressively.
