Policy Design

In this area of study, we holistically examine policy as a means for us to adapt to an ever-changing political, economic, and social environment and to make our daily lives better. Students learn methods and concepts to design policies that engage various stakeholders, not just the government and public administrations.

*The term, "area," here does not refer to the major, department, or course to which students or faculty members belong. It is used for convenience and clarity to explain the areas of study that are currently offered in the two faculties. Students at SFC engage in projects based on their interests, consequently creating fields of study of their own.

Methodologies of Policy Research

Policy research involves a series of steps, from generating ideas, developing institutional designs and policy, to implementing and evaluating the policy. Students acquire skills and methods to conduct policy analysis -- in particular, qualitative and quantitative methods as well as the combination of both -- to dissect social problems and devise solutions.

Economy and Finance

Economy and finances are critical components of national and local government policymaking. We conduct economic analyses on real-world issues against a background of severe financial challenges, and apply the findings to solving policy issues.

Policymaking and Legislation

There is an increasing demand for legal frameworks and policies that adapt to technological innovation, greater diversity, and the increasingly borderless world. We explore concrete cases of policymaking and legal systems that drive sustainable transitions. In doing this, we make the best use of SFC resources: technology and natural ecosystems.
