Dean Tomohiro Ichinose of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies announced SFC's membership in the Renewable Energy University League during the program "Achieving Carbon Neutrality at SFC Campus" at the Open Research Forum (ORF), an event held at SFC on November 20, 2022 where students presented their recent findings in their research.
Dean Ichinose shared the university's resolution at the ORF, stressing that "carbon neutrality is linked not only to climate change but also to environmental issues such as biodiversity and resource circulation. An integrated approach is imperative. As we strive towards carbon neutrality, we want everyone involved with the campus to get on board; we want to stimulate discussion; and we want to make our campus better along the way."

Following the announcement, a panel talk was held jointly with the Shonan Student Union, an officially authorized organization, and panelists including student representatives discussed on the topic of "How do we create a sustainable campus?"
Panelists discussed the importance of taking an approach that satisfies and improves the happiness of stakeholders, such as initiatives that enhance the well-being and quality of life of those who interact with the campus and encourage communication with the local community in creating a sustainable campus. In order to achieve this, panelists stressed the necessity for creating a platform to facilitate discussion among various stakeholders including faculty, staff members, and students.
