Fumitoshi Kato, Dean of the Graduate School of Media and Governance

Congratulations to all of our new students on your admission to Keio University.

We are sure that you are filled with excitement at the outset of your new learning experience. At the same time, however, you may have concerns about entering the university in the midst of this difficult period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We as faculty members share the same sentiment.

However, we must not forget that the Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) is a place that tackles various challenges at all times. The saying "A blessing in disguise" refers to situations in which a potential disaster can sometimes turn out to be an advantage. We are constantly thinking how to turn the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 crisis into a new learning experience. While taking on new challenges, it is inevitable that failures will occur. However, without failures there can be no success.

The same goes for research. Looking for answers that already exist is not considered research. The spirit of SFC is all about addressing unresolved issues and aiming to solve social problems. Please join us in tackling such a challenge.

We are looking forward to seeing you online and on campus.
