SFC 25th Anniversary Commemorative Symposium on October 9th

On October 9th, Keio SFC hosted an international symposium in the North Hall on Mita Campus as a part of the SFC 25th Anniversary commemorative events.

With speeches by Dr. David Lassner, President of University of Hawai'i System, Prof. Hannu Jaakkola, Professor of Tampere University of Technology, Prof. Jianguo Shao, Dean of Japanese Department of the Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Jiro Kokuryo, Vice-President for International Affairs of Keio University, the international symposium was devoted to the subject “Global Development of Inter-University Education and Research Collaboration in the Future”.

Dr. Lassner’s presentation focused on the challenges of organizational changes in universities along with the opportunities of modern technologies as a medium of effective student education. In his presentation, Prof. Jaakkola chose achievements and success stories of over 30 years of research collaboration of Tampere University of Technology with Keio University and other international universities as examples for requisite steps to accomplish fruitful cooperation across national borders. Prof. Shao presented on strategies to increase the number of international students, the organizational background of sending students abroad and the achievements linked to these policies. Furthermore, Prof. Kokuryo contributed his ideas on strengthening cooperative relations as well as developing a world class university system and lead to a lively discussion on these topics.
