New Fab Space and Opening Event

The Fab Space was expanded and relocated within the Media Center. The new location to the side of the first floor entrance is surrounded by glass walls and can be seen from outside. With the Fab (making things utilizing digital technology) message "Fab is for everyone," new models of 3D printers and other machines have been set up.

[Available Machines]

3D Printers

  • MakerBot Replicator 5th Generation (2 machines)
  • 3D Systems CUBE (4 machines)

3D data is printed out with plastic filament (PLA) using fused deposition modeling technology.

 

3D Scanners

  • MakerBot Digitizer (2 machines)

The form of the object is read by a camera and laser to generate 3D data for the object.

 

Cutting Machines

  • Brother CM110 (2 machines)
  • silhouette CAMEO (1 machine)

Based on cutting data, the machine will cut materials such as paper and cloth into the shapes that you want.

 

Computerized Embroidery Machines

  • Brother INNOVIS D400J (2 machines)

In addition to embroidery done from embroidery data in the internal memory, dedicated software, etc., embroidery of various designs can be made based on image data. You can also use images that you created yourself, and images that you downloaded and edited.

 

[Event]

A special event will be held to commemorate the opening of the new Fab Space. Information from SFC will be presented through a panel discussion on digital fabrication endeavors.

On the same day, the IT Workshop bus "Mozilla Bus (MozBus)," equipped with a network environment and digital fabrication machines, is scheduled to be on display.

 

[Ideas into Forms]

Selection and layout of machines for the Fab Space were determined with the cooperation of SFC faculty members known for their activities in x-Design.

 

All SFC students are allowed to use the Media Center Fab Space, and we encourage you to experience this intellectual task of taking your idea or design and turning it into an object.
