Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus held its first-ever SFC EXPO over two days from Saturday, November 25 to Sunday, November 26.
The SFC EXPO combines various campus gatherings including the Open Research Forum (ORF), SFC's largest research presentation event, but at an expanded scale to showcase the best of our community's academic and research capabilities. The Fujisawa City government and Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu Co., Ltd., also joined this inaugural event, holding special programs to form collaborations with the local community and society at large.
Faculty, staff members, students, and others from the SFC community welcomed more than 4,000 attendees throughout the two days, including prospective students, researchers, industry experts, and Fujisawa citizens. The event proved to be a valuable opportunity for attendees to experience SFC's cutting-edge academic research against the backdrop of the beautiful autumn scenery.
Below is a sampling of the programming offered throughout the event.
- Special Collaborative Events "Fujisawa City & SFC" and "Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu & SFC"
- Open Research Forum (ORF)

Special collaborations were also held in cooperation with the Fujisawa City government and Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu Co., Ltd. The Fujisawa City collaboration included a special lecture by the mayor of Fujisawa City and an exhibition on urban development, showcasing collaboration between the community and the university. The Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu collaboration featured a panel discussion on next-generation mobility. Visitors were especially intrigued by an engine demonstration of "Santago," the alternative fuel Firewood Bus.
In addition, attendees were fascinated by the Open Research Forum, where the SFC's undergraduate and graduate students presented their most recent research findings. The ORF boasted a wide range of projects representing SFC's diverse and interwoven research, including 48 exhibits and 11 sessions.
The "Open Campus" portion of the event included information sessions on SFC's graduate and undergraduate programs as well as campus tours so that prospective students could appreciate SFC's offerings.
In addition to the events covered here, there were a variety of other programs that added to the festive air throughout the SFC EXPO. Thanks to everyone who joined us during these two days.
