Methodological Approaches
in Policy Management Studies

In policy management studies, whether it is the study of positions taken and people's perceptions, understanding of social phenomena, evaluation of policies, or construction of concepts, there is a diversity of research methods coexisting without one being superior or inferior to others. Some of the methods have been refined in their respective areas, some have evolved through interaction and stimulation among methods, and others have expanded their scope of application. Moreover, some new methods have arisen out of these processes, and they impact our perceptions and realities. The idea that methods themselves construct society and relationships is also vital for this practice-oriented discipline.
Refinement, innovation, and the creation of these methods are all directed toward the common goal of getting as close to reality as possible, and these cutting-edge approaches will be introduced in this book. Presented are the expansion of quantitative analysis in policy evaluation; new possibilities from qualitative research that approach semantic content and interactive processes of social events and policy implementation; and new possibilities where methods in themselves work on society and perceptions.
