Publicly-Funded Research Projects

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan (MEXT) provides financial support for educational reform at national, public and private universities in Japan. MEXT has provided financial assistance under different program categories to the following Keio University projects:

This program promotes graduate schools to build an educational environment to train highly skilled IT professionals. One project submitted by Keio University was selected under this category.

This program aims to develop independent and responsible persons who can contribute effectively to society. The MEXT selects extraordinary programs that can cater to the needs of the students. Once the programs are selected, the MEXT not only provides financial support but also disseminates the information about the program in society.

Cultivation of Researchers Who Will Guide Information Society Governance - Global Network and Double Degree (GNDD) Program

Promotional Project for Advancement of Academic Research at Private Universities

This project provides financial assistance and infrastructure support to private universities conducting research. The projects may fall under four categories laid down by the MEXT, such as "High-Tech Research Center Project", "Academic Frontier Project", "Collaboration with Local Communities Project" and "Open Research Center Project".

Grants-In-Aid for Scientific Research

This is a competitive research fund set up by the MEXT and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). The grants from this fund support creative and advanced research that has been peer reviewed. The purpose of the grant is to encourage outstanding academic research at all level from basic to application.
Thirty-two projects submitted by Keio University were selected under this category.

Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology

These funds are expected to be utilized for projects with the following three goals;

  1. Conducting system reforms, innovation and development of human resources

  3. Promoting international activities in science and technology
