SFC Aki Matsuri (SFC Fall Festival)
24 November 2011The 20th annual SFC Aki Matsuri (SFC Fall Festival) was held over the weekend of October 15 and 16. This year, the festival had a Halloween theme and attracted around 10,000 visitors to the Shonan Fujisawa Campus.
The festival got off to a somewhat slow start, as strong winds on the Saturday meant that some outdoor attractions, such as stage performances and food stalls, were cancelled. However, the indoor schedule was unaffected, with the “Captain Monster Candy Battle” proving popular with the children, and other events including the “Student Club Game Tournament” and “Candle Night Collection” also very well received. The first day concluded in style with a fantastic fireworks display lighting up the night sky to cheers from the crowd gathered around the Gulliver Pond, so called the duck pond (Kamoike).
The second day was blessed with breezy yet fine weather, which meant that the stage performances and food stalls could go ahead as planned. The customary annual flea market (Momiji-ichi, or “Red Leaf Market”) was also held, helping to strengthen ties with the local community, and many families from the area could be seen enjoying a day out on campus. Furthermore, an appearance on stage by TV personality Akina Minami added to the excitement. As the second day drew to a close, visitors were sent on their way by the beautiful “Candle Night” display, which debuted to such acclaim last year. In the darkness, illuminated by flickering candlelight, everyone was transfixed, and could go home with many wonderful memories.
