Professor Larry J. Shapiro, former Dean of the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, visits Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC)

On Tuesday, April 12, Professor Larry J. Shapiro, former Dean of the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, visited SFC to participate in a joint seminar and observe research projects.

The joint seminar titled “Opportunities for Research Collaboration between Washington University in St. Louis and Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus” featured presentations by Yasushi Kiyoki, Dean of the Graduate School of Media and Governance, Jun Murai, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Hideyuki Tokuda, Professor of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Yasuhiro Naito, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Rodney Van Meter, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Yuko Oguma, Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Health Management, and Rika Fujiya, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, followed by an active exchange of ideas between Professor Shapiro and the presenters.

Later in the day, Professor Shapiro received explanations on personal fabrication research by Hiroya Tanaka, Professor of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, and robot research by Kazunori Takashio, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, then kindly provided comments and questions from various angles regarding SFC’s interdisciplinary research activities spanning across broad academic fields. Professor Shapiro’s visit to Japan was made possible mainly through the efforts of Keio University School of Medicine as part of the Top Global University Project, leading to further and stronger collaboration with the University in the future.
